Frequently Asked Questions

Must I have a meal plan? - Yes, if you live in on-campus housing. The residence halls do not have adequate personal cooking facilities for each resident. There is a café in each residence hall for your dining convenience.

What are the resident meal plan choices? – There are three meal plans from which to choose.  They are Plan A $2500.00 annually, Plan B $2240.00 annually, or Plan C $2000.00 annually.  You can choose any of these plans when you return your housing license agreement or at the Office of Residence Life and Summer Programs at 150 Tremont St. or Miller Hall.   You will be pre-billed for the Plan B ($2160.00 annually).  If you feel Plan B is too little or too much, you may change to Plan A or Plan C during the first three weeks of each semester at the Office of Residence Life at 150 Tremont St.

Is there a commuter meal plan? – The Ram account is a prepaid declining balance account. You may open and make deposits to a Ram account at any dining location on campus. The Ram account is accepted at all dining locations on campus. We accept deposits by phone at 617.305.2511. Deposits can be made using Visa, Master Card, American Express, checks made out to “Sodexho USA”, and with U.S. currency.

Do I get a meal card? – Your meal card is your Suffolk ID. This is for both Resident and Ram accounts. You must have your ID with you to make a purchase. Remember that it is YOUR ID and is not to be used by persons other than you!

How does the resident meal plan work? – You may dine at any dining location at Suffolk University (See DINING LOCATIONS page). Select your purchases and present your Suffolk ID to the cashier who will swipe you card and you are on your way! All dining locations are ala Carte style dining.  Each item is priced individually giving you complete flexibility in your dining choices.

How do I know what my dining account balance is? – You may inquire at any dining location and we can inquire your account balance.  You may also request a history of your account by stopping by the Switchboard Office (Sawyer) or the Dining Service Office (150 Tremont).

What if I run out of meal plan money? You can open a Ram account at any time if you deplete your meal plan money. Additionally you might consider opting for a larger meal plan for the next semester.

What if I have meal plan money left over at the end of a semester? – Your residual balance carries over from the Fall semester into the Spring semester. Any balance remaining at the conclusion of the Spring semester is forfeited. Students not participating in a meal plan in the Spring semester will forfeit all remaining Fall funds at the conclusion of the Fall semester.

What if I lose my Suffolk ID? – You should contact the Suffolk University Police immediately to obtain a replacement card. You must report your card missing to the Campus Card Office at 617.573.8499 or 617.305.1747. It is possible for someone else to use your lost card to obtain meals until the Campus Card Office is notified.

I am on a restricted diet. How do I assure myself that I can eat what is being served? – We have many guests on restricted diets. Please introduce yourself to the manager or the chef of the unit you expect to dine in so we can work with you to meet your dining needs.

When are the dining locations open? – There is a dining location open from 7:00AM to 10:00PM Monday through Friday and from 10:30AM to 10:00PM on Saturday, Sunday and University holidays. However, the residence halls are only open to residents of the specific residence hall and invited guests. The specific information for each location is located in the “Locations” tab on this web site.
